IF you can’t face slaving away in the kitchen or going out for lunch, there is a new Sunday roast takeaway service available in Poole.

The Lazy Roast based at Penn Central offers a selection of meats including sirloin beef, pork belly or turkey crown compete with all the trimmings.

All I had to do was let them know my choice of meat and when I planned to collect my ‘roast to go’ which can be any time between 12.30pm and 4.30pm.

I sent a message via the Facebook site on Sunday morning and received confirmation within minutes. When I arrived at around 1.30pm at the restaurant bar in Penn Hill, the chef Ben who was working at the carvery, invited me to take a seat at the bar.

I had a 10-minute wait while Ben packaged up all the food into disposable containers and placed them in brown paper bags.

Everything was still piping hot by the time we got home apart from the large Yorkshire puddings which just needed a few minutes in a hot oven.

Our meal for four included thick slices of roast pork belly with perfect crackling, tender slices of sirloin beef with a hint of pink in the centre, buttered carrots, mashed swede, diced cabbage, crispy roast potatoes, two pots of thick, beefy gravy and four mini tubs of apple sauce.

There was more than enough food for four and that includes two teenagers who can eat their own body weight in roast potatoes.

We also had two containers of chocolate pudding which was lovely and moist but not too rich.

A Sunday roast is one of our favourite meals of the week but it does require a fair bit of prep and results in even more washing up.

This time there were no greasy pots or pans to tackle afterwards so we had more time to relax and read the Sunday papers.

The price is £10 per adult and £6 per child which includes free dessert.

Although the service is currently collection only, I’m told they hope to start deliveries in the future. The Lazy Roast is a great concept to help save your Sundays!
