A TIMELY Weymouth Lunchtime concert will be performed at St Mary's Church in Weymouth town centre on Wednesday (21).

Pianist Duncan Honeybourne will give a lecture recital, Shadows: Echoes of the Great War, at 1pm.

The concert, coming just after the Centenary Armistice, is woven around Ravel’s suite Le Tombeau de Couperin.

Each of its six dance movements is dedicated to the memory of a friend killed in the war, with pieces by British composers who were killed or fought in the Great War. Weymouth pianist Duncan will tell all their stories alongside.

The concert will delve into the works of composers who served, lost their lives or were deeply affected by the conflict, and piano music from a later era which reflects on those turbulent years and the First World War’s shattering cost to humankind.

Concert-goers will also be able to enjoy Ernest Farrar's Miniature Suite, op.16, Cecil Coles' Five Little Variations on an Original Theme, Ernest John Moeran's The Lake Island and Sadie Harrison's Shadows: Six Portraits of William Baines (2013)
