Using trains to make your great Christmas getaway? or simply want to know if you'll be able to catch the bus to work?

Here's our guide to public transport over Christmas. 

Morebus

On Christmas Eve, the bus operator will be running a normal timetable on all routes which will last until the end of service, however there will be no N1 & N2 nightbuses. 

The last journeys on the m1 and m2 services will be:

  • 12.15am Poole to Southbourne
  • 12.30am Poole and Castlepoint
  • 12.09am Southbourne to Poole
  • 12.20am Castlepoint to Poole

This year the m1 and m2 will run on Christmas Day, with the m1 extended to Bournemouth Hospital and the m2 extended to Christchurch.

Special Christmas Day fares will apply, however, key cards, period passes, app tickets will be valid for travel.

No other services will be running on Christmas Day

Boxing Day and New Year's Day will see several services running throughout our operating area on special timetables.

Normal Sunday timetables will be in operation on December 27 and 28. 

Then on December 29, 30 and New Year's Eve, a normal Saturday timetable will be running but there will be some exceptions. See more here

On New Year's Eve, the N1 & N2 nightbuses will be running throughout the night. 

Yellow Buses

The last service on Christmas Eve is around 9.30pm.

There will be no services running on Christmas Day and limited services on Boxing Day and New Year's Day between 8am and 6pm.

A normal Sunday service will run on December 27. 

A Saturday service will operate on December 28, 29 and 30.

On New Year's Eve, there will be a Saturday service with the last service running until around 9.30pm. 

South West Trains 

South West Trains will run a Saturday service on Christmas Eve and between December 28 and 31

On Christmas Eve, a revised will begin from around 7pm with many late evening trains cancelled or not running their entire journey. The service will shut down completely at 11pm. Passengers travelling during the evening have been told to make sure their journey will be possible before starting out. 

South West Trains and Island Line will be running no services on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

A modified Sunday service will run on New Year's Day.

From December 27 to January 3, the lines between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth will be closed all day for bridge repairs.

  • The normal train service will run between London Waterloo and Brockenhurst.
  • Buses for local journeys will replace train services between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth.
  • Fast bus services will also run between Southampton Airport Parkway and Southampton Central to Bournemouth and Poole.
  • An hourly train service will run between Bournemouth and Weymouth.

Services between New Milton and Branksome will be halted between December 24 and January 4 to enable engineers to carry out essential maintenance to two viaducts near Christchurch.

Sandbanks Ferry

The ferry service will run as per its normal timetable throughout the festive period, except for Christmas Day when a reduced 30 minute service will operate between 8am and 6.10pm.

The ferry will leave Sandbanks on the hour and 30 minutes after each hour. It will leave Shell Bay at 10 minutes and 40 minutes after each hour.
