A MAN is due to appear in court today in connection with a reported disturbance in Christchurch on the weekend.

Residents and store workers were evacuated from their homes and place of work during a five-hour stand-off between a man and police officers on Everest Road on June 19.

It is reported that one person sustained minor injuries during the incident and had already left the address before officers arrived. 

A 39-year-old local man was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with a number of public order offences including assault and using abusive language.

He is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court today.

A police spokesman said: “At 7.26am on Saturday June 19, officers were called to reports of a disturbance at an address in Everest Road.

“One man remained inside the property and officers spent a number of hours speaking to the man with the aim of bringing the matter to a safe conclusion and to ensure he could access the appropriate medical care.

"The incident was brought to a safe conclusion at 12.45pm. 

“A section of Everest Road, and a nearby One Stop store, was cordoned off to allow officers to deal with the incident safely.

“A man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with assault, assault of an emergency worker and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Monday June 21.
