FIREFIGHTERS rushed to a Bournemouth department store following reports of black smoke billowing from the roof.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue were called to the House of Fraser in Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth town centre following reports of smoke coming out of the roof. 

The fire service were called at 8.45am this morning, Wednesday, June 16, to reports of smoke coming from the roof of the store.

The crews investigated the smoke and found it was caused by a faulty generator.

Eight crews from Springbourne, Westbourne, Redhill Park, Christchurch (x2) and Poole (x2) plus the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne attended the scene.

The incident follows a busy night across the county with fire crews being called to a number of incidents.
