LEIGH COMMON, WIMBORNE
THE COMMONS ACT 2006 Lewis Wptt (Ciistnctlon) Ltd has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Leigh Common.
The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The proposed works will be carried out in the highway verge on the south side of Leigh Road and consent is required under the Commons Act 2006 because the parts of the highway verge affected are also registered as common land.
The proposed works stem from the creation of a new signal controlled alknode access junction to a new mixed use development in accordance with the adopted Core Strategy Policy WMC8 'South of Leigh Road New Neighbourhood and Sports Village'. Part of this would fall within the area registered as common land. This would involve hardsurfacing for part of the new carriageway for the widened Leigh Road, elements of sightlines for inter-visibility, part of the belknouth of the new carriageway to access the site, and a constituent of the new shared pedestrian/cycle routes adjacent to the south side of Leigh Road; along with surface water works including a realignment of an existing drainage ditch. The total area these works would cover on registered common land would be 2,224 square metres running for 213 metres in length along the south side of Leigh Road. The works will be located on the south side of Leigh Road, Colehill, Wimborne, Dorset east of Brookside Manor at Ordnance Survey grid reference SZ 029 999.
