Local People required for
Independent Remuneration Panel on
Councillors Allowances

We are looking for six local people, with an interest in local government to join our Independent Remuneration Panel. The panel will make recommendations to Christchurch Borough Council, East Dorset District Council and Purbeck District Council on the allowances and expenses payable to councillors.

The panel will meet once or twice a year and is supported by Officers of the Council. Training and advice will be given and although the appointment is of a voluntary nature travel expenses are payable. Applicants are likely to possess an understanding of the work of local government and elected councillors and be politically impartial. Applicants must be over 18 years old, possess questioning skills, and the ability to consider evidence and form sound judgements based on that evidence. District councillors, co-opted members and officers are not eligible to apply. In addition, anyone who would be disqualified from being an elected Councillor of a local authority is disqualified from being a member of the panel.
