PUBLIC Health England is responsible for improving the health and wellbeing of the nation. Therefore some might wonder why, given the 10 cases of a rare and potentially deadly strain of E coli across Dorset, PHE officials released details of the outbreak and advice only yesterday, five months after the first notification. And then only prompted by an enquiry from the Daily Echo. The second victim, Jessica Archer, is angry at the silence. Her family was told she might die and she didn’t want anyone else to go through her nightmare or that of her nephew, Isaac. PHE has some serious explaining to do.
