An unmitigated tragedy
THE death of student Linda Lietaviete at the hands of Alvin Santos to some extent remains inexplicable despite yesterday’s murder verdict. The pair had been friends for three years.
And the CCTV footage on our website released by Dorset Police shows them chatting and laughing as they walked through Bournemouth shortly before he killed her.
The very ordinariness of two friends enjoying themselves makes a shocking prelude to a brutal murder. Linda was a talented, bright and sparky teenager. Her passing at the age 16 was and remains an unmitigated tragedy for everyone associated with her.
