Inspiration past and present
ON Monday we mark the centenary of the beginning of World War One.
Today our Echoes section includes special features dedicated to the momentous events of 1914 -18 and the Seven Days magazine is a commemorative edition.
On the opposite page is one of many remarkable pictures surviving from that. So sharp is the image that the smiles on some the soldiers’ faces are visible.
The great effort being made to remember the heroism, sacrifice and innovation in the Great War has been a true inspiration in these otherwise fairly dispiriting times.
