Hospital corners must not be cut

THROUGH Have Your Say, may I thank Mr Spotswood and Dr Mary Armitage for attending the public meeting regarding Christchurch Hospital.

However, due to the volume of people attending and the time taken to answer many questions there was not time for everyone to speak out about their fears for the future. The one question that begged an answer was: what is the state of the available beds at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital?

Now that the winter pressures ward (K Ward) has been closed at Christchurch Hospital one wonders how the hospital copes with the constant influx of patients.

We were told that the best use of beds was more important than the number of beds but I understand that on Sunday RBH was closed to new admissions for two hours due to the volume of ill people.

Also how is the bed state on a daily basis since the beds at Christchurch have been closed? Is this information available to the public, and if not why not?

It seems to me that the number of beds may well be very important, especially with beds and recently refurbished wards lying empty at Christchurch.

Also a point was made about single sex wards and single rooms – the Forest Dene ward, which is to close at the end of this month, only has single rooms – so why close that ward, which also has marvellous facilities for disabled people?

Please would the Chief Executive answer these questions through the pages of your newspaper?
