BA dispute – real issue off the radar

TYPICAL of media coverage of industrial disputes, the report in Tuesday’s Daily Echo on the BA affair concentrates on the public inconvenience caused rather than the facts of the case.

The deep reluctance of most working people to take strike action is borne out by the personal experience of the undersigned, both as an employee and an employer. The 80 per cent vote for strike action by BA cabin staff, therefore, indicates severe deficiencies in employee relations.

Chronic mismanagement, both political and commercial, has brought this country to its knees. Yet this dispute, like the one plaguing the Post Office, proves that it is ordinary folk who will bear the consequences, while those in command continue to enjoy “the good life”.
