Store can only be good news for us

I really don’t know how Mr John Baxendale who, incidentally, lives outside Wimborne in West Moors, has the right to tell the people of Wimborne what is needed in our town (Daily Echo, March 15).

I do wish people would give Waitrose a good press instead of criticising the building of their store on the old cricket ground, which was never available to the public anyway.

This store can only be good for the town, bringing in employment, which is badly needed, trade for our existing traders and visitors to the town.

As for his 130 backers – many of course don’t even know Wimborne or of the need for a good supermarket.

What a cheek to say that people from around the world want us to have a town green when we have Redcotts Recreation Ground, Leigh Park for recreation and the Minster Green in the centre of Wimborne for “gentle recreation”.

Let's not forget that Waitrose is not share-holder owned - profits go to the staff who work there and enjoy a decent standard of employment - a rare thing nowadays.
