Steaming mad

REGARDING restoration of regular train services between Swanage and Wareham, while I do not begrudge the Borough of Poole its long awaited twin sails bridge (Daily Echo March 13), I fail to see why the much lesser sum of £3 million has been denied the Purbeck Rail Partnership for the vital cause of restoring the rail link which our community needs so much.

It would provide a great environmental benefit to the region, reducing pressure on the overcrowded roads and facilitating ease of travel to and from the region, thereby benefiting tourism.

If the regional government, which turned down the application, is still unwilling to help, perhaps the Department of Transport should provide this relatively modest grant to restore the regular service that was so unfortunately lost to the area many years ago.
