The consultation about the Imax is now shown to be sham.
Surely Cllr MacLoughlin’s letter (Have Your Say, March 11) seeks to influence public opinion.
His mind is made up – and no doubt he will demand his party conforms. Perhaps he sees himself as some monster-destroying hero in time for the next election.
It might only be a short term solution, but having taken over a purpose-built shell at a time when the Imax format and 3D are fulfilling their potential with films like Avatar and Alice in Wonder-land, etc, would it not make commercial sense to hire projection equipment to allow these films to be shown, thus making Bournemouth the most enviable place on the South Coast?
If, in three years, this type of cinema proves to be just a passing craze, then the council will have earned enough money from the takings to provide themselves with more pay-rises; the public would have enjoyed the true potential of Imax; and the debate about the building could be renewed in a more sensible manner.
John Cresswell, Southlands Avenue, Bournemouth
