I HAVE recently returned from Sydney, Australia where the Imax cinema was showing Avatar in 3D – the most successful film in history.
I read about Disney’s 3D film releases later in the year and feedback about the development of 3D technology from the world’s leading ‘hi-tech’ exhibition in the US earlier in the year.
In view of these recent developments, would it not be sensible to stand back and draw breath on the Waterfront decision to establish if this is a blip, or the start of a real future for 3D movies? Whilst I would not normally encourage the council to prevaricate, on this occasion I would suggest it to be sensible.
The alternative could be that if 3D takes off we could hear the sigh in future – if only we still had 3D cinema, just like we used to have, along with an ice rink and a swimming pool.
Maybe Bournemouth was ahead of its time and that time is yet to come! Then the council’s money could be used for something more constructive.
