Storm in teacup is making waves at Bournemouth

I sometimes wonder whether Cllr MacLoughlin actually lives in this town and sees for himself what is so abundantly wrong with the surf reef.

His comments dismissing the latest row about the surf reef as a “storm in a teacup” (Daily Echo, March 8) show how little he is in touch with the town.

No matter how much spin he puts on the reef, the facts speak for themselves: It does not work.

When, in ideal conditions, between 20 and 30 surfers ride the waves between Boscombe and Bourne-mouth piers and no surfers are near the reef, that surely tells the story. Yes, the regeneration has brought life to the area, but this will quickly dissipate when the media highlights the reef’s deficiencies.

The way this council is being run, with it’s secret meetings and a total disregard for other elected members is a disgrace.

I would suggest to Cllr MacLoughlin and his supporters within the council that the money outstanding to the contractors be withheld and transferred to the street cleaning budget.

Then if they offered to assist in removing the rubbish we would at last start to get value from these members, and we could clean up two areas at the same time.
