I am writing to express my bemusement at Sharon Wright’s letter a complaining about the “traffic chaos” following the Roar on the Shore (Have Your Say, August 22).

Bournemouth is congested at the best of times. Does it not occur to people that congestion is going to be far worse after an event like this?

Why is it that they race back to their cars as though a tsunami were approaching, in the naïve belief they can beat the traffic?

Anyone with any common sense would know to either park well out of town and walk in, or to go for a drink or a meal afterwards and wait for the worst of the traffic to clear.

As for Ms Wright’s remark: “It would not have made much difference if we had been on a bus as the buses were stuck in the traffic as well”, she completely misses the point.

If more people had used public transport instead of taking their cars the congestion would have been less and everyone could have got home more quickly.
