I have just written to the ‘Head of Lampposts’ at Dorset County Council, about the preposterous and absurd reasons given for Ferndown not being able to hang up bunting for the carnival (Daily Echo, July 3).

It really is time that councils up and down the country stopped coming up with these ludicrous excuses for the general public not to enjoy themselves in a time-honoured fashion that does not appear to have done anybody any great harm over the years.

I hope the council knows that this story was repeated in the national and on the BBC News website, as well as being on the front page of the Daily Echo, and that it did not reflect kindly on Dorset County Council.
