AS AN international greyhound protection organisation, we are always pleased when any improvement is made to the welfare of racing dogs (North Dorset greyhound trainer asked to improve kennel standards, Daily Echo, June 30).
However, the conditions in which dogs are kept is only one issue in terms of their treatment at the hands of the racing industry as a whole.
Very sadly, our latest research indicates that as many as 15,000 greyhounds, bred to supply the demands of British tracks, are put to death every year, after failing to make the grade as racers or when their racing careers come to an end.
That is why we are calling on the public not to attend dog tracks or bet on greyhound racing.
