It is absolutely appalling that the council have decided to close Hengistbury Head centre.
South Coast to champion Olympic sailing for 2012? Don’t make me laugh.
I work at Portchester School, Bournemouth and we use Hengistbury for outdoor activity events for hundreds of our students every summer.
We also run sailing and canoeing clubs.
It is an excellent venue and has always provided fantastic opportunities for young people to learn new skills on the water.
How can a South Coast resort axe its only watersports facility?
What about the hundreds of primary children who do field studies lessons every year?
It beggars belief that councillors have sanctioned this. OK it may not make money, but it provides a service.
Having worked in London for 20 years I know that all London boroughs have access to watersports facilities (that do not make money) and here we are by the sea with no facilities.
