I WRITE further to your article about the Bournemouth Centre for Community Arts (Community centre scheme on track, Daily Echo, February 28) which if transformed into a community centre will be a much- needed facility for all the residents of Boscombe, and will not be a burden on the council tax payer.

I think it is a bit rich for Cllr John Beesley to say: “We have to be confident that the proposed centre is self-financing so that the taxpayer is not left to deal with any shortfall”, when half a mile down the road, on the seafront at Boscombe Spa, huge overspends in dealing with the contract for the surf reef, which will be used by a small minority of the local population, is costing the borough millions more than expected.

If some of this money had not been wasted, it could have been spent in helping the Friends of BCCA towards their goal.

The regeneration of Boscombe must not be allowed to stop halfway up Sea Road.
