UNFORTUNATELY it's Cllr David Smith who appears ignorant (Beach litter, May 10). I walked from Alum Chine to Bournemouth Pier on bank holiday evening. The vast majority of beach users had dutifully tried to place their litter in bins but these were swamped and totally inadequate.

Nearer to the pier, admittedly, there was a lot of litter on the beach itself but there were no council workers in sight to keep the beach in order.

Leaving the mess just encourages anti-social behaviour. If Cllr Smith thinks that the council was 'sufficiently prepared' for the influx of visitors he is deluded. No councillor should be shifting blame onto the people who help to keep the Bournemouth economy going.
