I WOULD like to clear up an issue regarding the Curzon Road cycling contraflow.

This road is no narrower than many residential roads in our town, many of which have parking along both sides.

Cars and bicycles can easily deal with each other in these spaces. I don't believe for a minute that a driver, on seeing himself on a one-way road, will proceed without looking!

The only problem arises because arterial (cross-town) traffic uses Windham Road and Curzon Road as a rat-run to avoid the traffic lights outside the Queens Park pub. This sort of traffic is fast and should not be allowed to flow unhindered through residential areas.

The segregation of arterial traffic to designated roads is a very successful tenet of road safety in many European countries. It greatly reduces the number of accidents and allows independent mobility for children.
