I AM writing to say that I am totally against the merger plans to join Bournemouth with Poole.

We already share a number of the council responsibilities, but to have a total merger would be a great mistake for everyone living in this area.

My family have been resident in Poole for over 200 years and many changes have taken place even in my lifetime. My father was instrumental in the modernisation of Poole after the war and Poole has gone on to be a great place to live and work with a well-run council.

However, I’m sad to say that the present council leaves a lot to be desired and needs to sort itself out rather than rushing into the arms of Bournemouth council, which in itself leaves a lot to be desired.

Bigger does not mean better and often means that there are more opportunities to ‘pass the buck’.
