RECENTLY the boss of Yellow Buses reiterated what many of us had thought for a long time: We are heading closer to gridlock.

The road system has been bearable during the summer holidays, but with term time comes the big slow down.

Everywhere you look, building work is under way. Previous single dwellings are being replaced by flats and the green belt is being built on.

Everyone also wants to drive a car so a gradual increase is taking place.

Roeshot Hill, Parley and many other sizeable projects in the pipeline will only exacerbate the problem.

And when we can't move, the likelihood is that there will be inquiries that beg the question: Why?

Quite simply the local population is outgrowing the roads that were built for it.
