WITH regard to the travellers' camp on Baiter being provided with portable toilet facilities, as reported, Cllr Rampton says that they are provided in these situations because ‘it is cheaper than not doing so’.

By that I assume he means the cost of clearing up the ‘mess’ the travellers would leave behind if the toilet facility was not there would be greater.

Presumably, by this argument then, if the general public were to use the park as a toilet, as many are being forced to do, the council would have to provide toilet facilities because ‘it would be cheaper than not doing so’.

It just shows that the council needs a reality check.

As I and others have said before properly costed pay to enter toilets, as provided elsewhere in the country and in Europe, would be a sensible way forward and should not be dismissed out of hand.
