ATHLETES at risk of expulsion from King’s Park by AFC Bournemouth’s new stadium plans will welcome Cllr Beesley’s support (Echo, July 15).

He advocates an additional feasibility study into relocation of the athletics stadium; though I note no promise it will be in King’s Park.

As sports people themselves, many of them Cherries fans, the athletes are the last people to stand in the way of the football club’s plans. But should their own dreams be destroyed because their track is in the way?

It may generally be taboo in this country, but one feasible solution is for athletics and soccer to share the stadium. West Ham United’s new ground is currently hosting para athletics, though further co-operation beyond next month’s World Athletics Championships seems unlikely.

Should provision of a track within Cherries’ new stadium be a condition for planning permission unless AFC Bournemouth provides comparable athletics facilities elsewhere within King’s Park?
