YOU published a letter from Ken Cook of Southbourne. As usual the last paragraph said it all.

I have written before about cycling to work from Shore Road to Bournemouth.

I was a careful cyclist but on occasions I had to stop and walk because candidates walking to a conference at the BIC straddled the pavement and appeared to be deaf to my bell.

To be selfish to others is not pleasant.

Furthermore the article on page five (‘Tyler is run down by a rogue cyclist, July 12) was very interesting.

The poor little boy, Tyler, who was hit be a cyclist on the promenade, will remember the incident for life.

The cyclist will be unable to be contacted and therefore not be able to apologise to the family. I wish Tyler well and his family.

A very unpleasant shock for them all. This incident will only point to more legislation on the sea front.

On a more serious note there is no law that can prevent cycling, boat users or any other people using the wonderful amenities we have on our benign coast line.

Wake up the local boroughs – the south coast is onto a winner if it is managed properly. Get rid of the councillors and let private enterprise in.
