WELL it’s finally happened. Poole councillors and management of Sandbanks beach have lost the plot!

On one of the hottest and sunniest weekends in early July in recent years, they authorise the complete closure of a large section of beach at Sandbanks with no right of way. Apparently this was on the grounds of health and safety because of the beach polo and Sandfest events.

Well let me tell them, poppy-cock. I sat at a beach hut on the Sunday, the only one open in that area, as the only view that the whole of the block had was a massive tent, temporary fencing and toilets.

As a result the promenade was full of large vans reversing and attempting to turn amongst families with young children who were dodging in and out of the busy delivery services. It seemed to that it was complete and utter chaos. I would suggest an event completely out of control.

A few years ago I requested by a Freedom of Information Request to the BoP of a breakdown of their cost of the whole event, including loss of venue to the beach car parking, exactly what is the council staff involvement is and what the council received in revenue.

Not surprisingly they never replied or come up with any answers. Surely the people of Poole are entitled to know how much revenue is involved for the loss of amenities over the weeks.

Poole, A Beautiful Place. Amongst all the horses dung and litter it’s amazing that Sandbanks remains a blue flag beach. Poole councillors need to have a good look at what Sandbanks beach should be all about.

An open, natural, beautiful place which is not up for sale or hire to the highest bidder promoting money-spinning events. Sandbanks does not need selling, enough people visit anyway.

Send it over to Bournemouth. They might welcome these events with open arms – not!
