THE ‘Poole Local Plan’ (Echo, June 14) made for gloomy reading.

Green belt, car parks, school grounds, and even a swimming pool, tossed in to the redevelopment mix.

Is this all to satisfy the number ‘crunchers’ in Whitehall, or an admission that nobody knows exactly how many people now live here (or both)?

A proposal for 430 properties on land adjacent to Poole Stadium catches the eye. With our near footballing neighbours AFC Bournemouth looking to relocate to a new home, Poole Town FC themselves could be homeless inside a decade.

Surely private investment should be sought and encouraged to bring the tired looking Wimborne Road venue into the 21st century and give the local community a modern complex to be proud of.

A purpose built home for football, speedway, and greyhounds. How it used to be.

With ever-increasing numbers of pubs and clubs being sold off for further development, where will the public be looking to spend their leisure time?

Probably not at Poole Stadium if it is tucked away behind a housing estate and minus a car park.
