WHEN I was working in Bournemouth town centre I would cycle along the promenade morning and evening. Bournemouth kept their promenade immaculate, not so Poole. Swathes of deep sand were left for weeks.

Recently I have contacted my local councillor and Poole Borough Council about the dog signs at the car park entrance to Sandbanks beach.

Judith Martin from Poole Borough Council agreed that the signs were misleading and would arrange for them to be altered. So far only the sign for the dog washing facility has been altered.

The other sign which asks people to pick up after their dog is wrong and does not correspond with the sign on the notice board nearby.

As early morning dog walkers on the permitted beach at Sandbanks we regularly pick up rubbish. Two council employees then come down the beach in a John Deere cart doing the same. However apart from the bins up by the car park and the one at the top of Midway Path, there is no bin.

I have requested that a sign be put up requesting people to take their rubbish home. This appears to have fallen on deaf ears.

Is it beyond the wit of the council refuse department to provide a fox and seagull and fireproof bin near the Haven Hotel end of the beach?

Furthermore, the small barbecue area near the car park has bins but they don’t have lids.

These are a danger to dogs and small children.

Other holiday destinations, mainly abroad, manage to provide safe bins – why can’t we?
