THE wholesale closure of public toilets throughout Poole only goes to show what an utterly bankrupt council we have. Bankrupt political judgement. Bankrupt financial management.

And worse what an utter insult to people’s intelligence from Cllr John Rampton (Echo, April 22) telling us that “toilet closures will protect services”. What an absurd statement.

As for Cllr Rampton in his letter claiming there are three sets of toilets available in Ashley Road, that is complete nonsense. The only toilets in Waitrose are a very long 300 yards from car parks and then only accessible in shopping hours.

His comment on Poole bus station, Lighthouse and Dolphin Centre, is again complete nonsense. These are each 300 yards from the bus station with Lighthouse across a busy dual carriageway. And in any case the theatre is closed most of the day.

And so in Poole all too predictably, as in Ashley Road three years ago, we end with desperate people forced to urinate behind shops and in alleys.

Yet just a few weeks ago we were told £3 million had been found from the “Heritage Lottery” to add more benefits to Poole Park.

Poole Park, very convenient for the Civic Centre, with two sets of open toilets, but its beyond political wit to find funds for the rest of the town’s toilets.

And all the more shockingly outrageous when the now closed toilets off Poole high street were brand new and installed just five years ago at a cost of £60,000. What a colossal waste.

What truly shocking third rate political judgement from Cllr Rampton and the rest of the £18,000 a year lead councillors at Borough of Poole.
