I COULDN’T agree more with Robert Readman’s comments in Monday’s Echo (March 6) regarding the old Bournemouth bus station that burned down over 40 years ago.

What I’d like to know is why the council failed to rebuild the bus and coach station as soon as the site had been cleared.

After all, there must have been insurance cover.

The design of the old bus station was perfectly functional, with local buses on the top deck and long distance coaches on the lower floor. In at one end and out at the other.

It kept these large vehicles out of the way whilst stationary, and thus other traffic on the streets kept flowing.

Over the years both Bournemouth and Poole councils have made some appalling and disastrous decisions, but this one surely has to take the biscuit for being the most absurd.
