HOW sad to read of the petition to stop Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK and to see it supported by many politicians.

This lack of respect shown to the elected person holding the office of President of the United States is astounding, this is the same country don’t forget that fought with us in two world wars.

How insulting this must seem to the people of America who elected Donald Trump as their president.

To those politicians, the likes of Sadiq Khan, Jeremy Corbyn et al and all the people in this country calling to stop the invitation for a state visit to the United Kingdom, I would suggest they go to France and visit the enormous American cemetery in Normandy, cast their eyes and walk amongst the hundreds of thousands of graves of American servicemen who lost their lives helping this country during the last world war.

Then come back and show some respect to the American people and their elected President.

The American people elected Trump to this office, many whom are direct descendants of those American servicemen who gave their lives so gallantly in the Second World War.

There is nothing wrong in agreeing or disagreeing with Donald Trump’s policies. Indeed, many people in his own country do so. What is wrong however is to call for an invitation from our sovereign to be overturned, by way of a petition just because they disagree with American policies.
