I WAS delighted when I read that planning permission had been granted to develop the old Belvedere Hotel site.

However, I was shocked by the objections raised because of a lack of parking facilities (and was unclear as to whether this was aimed at the council for giving planning permission or to the developer for the design).

For goodness sake! That site has been an eyesore for ages and it will be great to see it re-developed.

No-one will be forced to buy an apartment or stay in the hotel - it will be their choice, so what on earth is the problem?

I don’t drive and I have absolutely no problem getting round - whatever anyone says we have an excellent bus network and a very convenient train and coach station.

We live in a beautiful area which can be much better seen on foot than through a car window.

We all go on about healthy living so isn’t it rather nice to see a development that doesn’t allow so many cars and all the related issues?

I think gardens and double ovens are very important but I’d never want to stop a development because it didn’t have a garden and the apartments only had single ovens!

Everyone has different priorities - people shouldn’t seek to impose theirs on others who would be quite happy to live without them.
