REGARDING the article on cyclists who are being given lights for their bikes in the rural areas of Dorset, why is this not happening in the urban areas?

All cyclists should be made to have lights or fined, as most of these people are usually in dark clothes and appear to have no regard for their own safety or the highway code and just expect car drivers to see them as they weave from the kerb to the other side of the road.

I must see at least six every night in a very short period of time and they are not the same six.

While I am aware that there are a lot of drivers who are inconsiderate towards cyclists, this problem is not helping decent law-abiding cyclists.

If a car driver breaks the law, he is fined or the vehicle is seized.

So why are cyclists not treated in the same manner?

You can buy a light for £1 with a battery in place.

A fine would reduce the amount of offenders and we could put the money towards road repairs to make it safer for us all.
