HOW very mean spirited of the council to submit plans to demolish the delightful toddler splash pool on the promenade at Alum Chine and replace it with four beach huts.

The original paddling pool on this site was replaced by the new splash pool a few years ago.

The little kids love it and so do parents and grandparents. A safe enclosed environment for small children to splash around and enjoy the sunshine.

The plan: To erect four beach huts. We have hundreds of beach huts, current annual rent £1,000 a year. I see this ‘plan’ as simply another way to claw in revenue without a thought to the fact that the splash pool is a free amenity enjoyed and used by hundreds of children.

Oh yes I mustn’t forget the additional clause at the end of the planning application which is to upgrade the playground opposite the pool. Presumably a sweetener to detract from the removal of the pool. We use the playground at least twice a week. Looks perfectly adequate to me.

Closing date for objections to these plans is tomorrow.
