I READ with great sadness the news in the Echo (Dec 16) of the forthcoming closure, on January 4, of the ABC Cinema in Westover Road, bringing down the final curtain of a proud heritage.

However it seems that one important aspect of this event has been overlooked in your report.

For 99 per cent of its illustrious lifetime, the ABC has thrilled and entertained thousands of cinemagoers by projecting real motion picture celluloid utilising mainly 35mm (but also sometimes, uniquely for the south coast, 70mm) formats.

Only very recently has digital presentation reared its pixellated head.

Therefore I feel it will be an incredible shame if the proposed final screening of the chosen movie isn’t fittingly presented on traditional honest-to-goodness film.

The silver screen spirits of the ABC wouldn’t want it any other way.
