YOUR news report about Bournemouth being one of the most congested towns in Britain (Daily Echo, November 30) hardly comes as news to most local motorists, especially as most of all the hold-ups and delays are the fault of useless bureaucrats at town hall who simply can’t stop meddling with things they have no understanding of.

All roads are dangerous places for those who have no grasp of the Highway Code because so many motorists think it’s perfectly acceptable to pull out onto main roads without properly checking it’s safe to do so.

Closing one lane will never stop that happening again. What is needed is good policing combined with another driver training course for offenders.

The A338 Wessex Way is a main artery for traffic passing through Bournemouth; this carriageway has been reduced to one lane on the spur roads leading on and off of that particular stretch of dual carriageway at the Richmond Hill roundabout.

It was designed to speed up traffic and ease congestion. All Bournemouth council have achieved is to create a dangerous black spot unbeknown to strangers visiting us, because it’s rare for motorists to have come across such hare-brained schemes where common sense prevails outside of Bournemouth Town Hall.

I anxiously wait for those overzealous councillors responsible for this monumental cock-up to also drain all swimming pools in Bournemouth each Friday for non-swimmers!
