I HAVE just watched a police documentary on TV.
There was an item when police were called to travellers parked on an unauthorised site (as of course happens in Dorset a lot in the summer).
The police issued the travellers with a section 61 giving them 24 hours to leave the site, which they did.
When the problem occurs locally we hear from the police that it’s a civil matter and they don’t take action, hence the council has to get a court order to move them, which takes time and costs a fortune.
Why can some police forces use section 61 and others not?
