I READ on your letters page someone getting fined by a private firm for dropping a cigarette end.

May I suggest with the approval of Bournemouth council that some could be employed on the promenade during the day giving out fines to cyclists on their bikes.

At Southbourne between 2pm and 2.30pm on Friday, July 22, 15 cyclists rode past of all ages and some at a fast pace with a few near misses with young children.

The barriers at Southbourne promenade had no effect and when you politely approach a cyclist they just carried on regardless.

If this private firm employed by Bournemouth council wanted to increase their revenue a small team along the whole promenade would reap results for the firm and the peace of mind for young families and the elderly during this holiday period.
