I NEED to respond to K J Turner’s letter regarding times of bin emptying.
Residents need to be aware that bins should be made ready for waste collection by 6am on the day of collection (most people put their bin out the night before).
Collections can be as late as 11pm. This flexibility minimises both cost and carbon footprint.
There’s full information on the council’s website.
I would also encourage residents to be aware of the importance of recycling and minimising waste.
Poole produces around 65,000 tonnes of household waste each year. It doesn’t just disappear once collected and costs about £100 to dispose of each tonne of residual waste.
Uncontaminated recycled waste however only costs around £18 per tonne, sometimes less.
It really is in all our interests to think carefully about how we can reduce what we have to put in the black bin. Also don’t forget re-use: come to New To You on Cabot Lane (Saturdays 10am-2pm) to pick up a bargain or two.
