REGARDING the article ‘Increase in deaths on Dorset roads’.
The increase as suggested in your article is being put down to road conditions. The conditions were the same before the increase. But there is a simple reason for the increase – speeding, bad driving and more inexperienced young drivers on the road.
Every day on the roads you can see vehicles being driven too fast and generally bad driving.
How many vehicles do you see slowing down when approaching roundabouts? They just keep going.
What are the spaced white lines for at the entry to roundabouts? Slow down.
The answer is more police traffic officers on the road pulling up drivers driving badly, giving advice and more prosecutions.
Just their presence would go a long way to help.
The police say they are short of money and cannot afford increased patrols.
What is more important, the saving of lives or saving a bit of money?
