IT IS unlikely the current crop of fanatical followers of the Cherries will have registered the passing of one of the great sports journalists of his generation: the late, great Peter Corrigan.
He is the newspaperman who, while covering Newport County in the old Third Division South, memorably called Dean Court “the most polite, best mannered football ground in the country”.
When Peter learned that I had covered the Cherries for the old pre-Murdoch Daily Herald (250 words and scorers), he remarked “Good God, boyo, how did you manage to stay awake?”
He was one of a sadly vanishing generation of truly outstanding newspapermen and one that all Bournemouth football followers should remember with special affection.
