MY COMMISERATIONS to the other 1,005 people who responded (partly prompted by myself) to the bus traffic survey regarding the about-not-to-be-paid-for-by-Dorset-County-Council Yellow Buses 24 and 111, serving West Christchurch, Burton and Highcliffe.
Despite this massive citizen activity and proof of ridership, Yellow Buses have decided not to attempt to run these as commercial services, and so they will disappear in August.
Tough luck Burton: in September, you might get a Monday, Wednesday and Friday occasional bus (paid for by Hampshire County Council) into Christchurch. West Christchurch gets cut off (unless Morebus kindly decides to divert the X1/X2 via St Catherine’s).
Bearing in mind proposals for a Dorset unitary council, why should Christchurch join a distant body that cares so little for its elderly population?
All those worthy policies for inclusion, isolation and connection are clearly illusory.
At least Bournemouth is closer than uncaring Dorchester and so might be more appreciative of Christchurch, which has always been disregarded since it was ejected from Hampshire into the uncaring hands of Dorchester merely to boost the population of Dorset.
R HARRIS
