HOW I would love to take Father Grufferty (Letters, 26th May 2016) on a tour of Boscombe Chine Gardens in the near future!

Every gardener knows that their cherished patch has ‘off days’, and I am sure that this was the case when Father Grufferty took his walk last weekend.

Boscombe Chine Gardens has so much to offer in terms of facilities, has won countless awards and is tended by not only the council’s parks team, but also, on occasion, by members of the Friends of Boscombe Chine Gardens.

Our excellent parks teams have many acres of our lovely town to keep tidy and well managed, so there are days when not all areas can be spotless.

I happen to know that this week has been the turn of Boscombe Chine, which now is beginning to be brought to its peak in time for Bank Holiday visitors and soon for the National and Local ‘In Bloom’ judging.

Litter and dog fouling are problems right across the borough, both the council and the Friends have mounted campaigns in Boscombe Chine Gardens to ask people to act more responsibly, which does have a short-term effect.

On the positive side, there are many beautiful plants and trees to be seen, both native and exotic, the Friends have some details of these on their website www.boscombechinegardens.org with new additions all the time.

There is a café selling delicious homemade savouries and cakes, activities for young people of all ages, and the land train stops halfway down for anyone who has walked far enough.

The gardens are truly beautiful and very much appreciated by local residents and visitors.
