READING Mike Roberts-Butler’s letter... "Too good to be true” (Echo, Saturday, May 21), prompts me to add my experience in Winton last week.
A middle-aged well-dressed man, also in an an expensive saloon, beckoned me over in a side road in Winton.
He was also asking directions, and when I asked him to point out the location he was seeking, pointed me on his map to Crawley and demonstrated an aircraft flying with his outstretched arms... Gatwick, no doubt?!
I directed him back to the main road, gave him initial basic directions and suggested he then looked out for Ringwood... end of... he drove off.
To my surprise, he then did a U-turn and drove back down the wrong side of the road to where I was on the pavement and asked me to confirm.
I was not offered any watches, sadly... just left puzzled, and wiped it from memory till I read the Letters Page on Saturday.
Perhaps a third party, reading our respective letters, might offer a suggestion for these somewhat strange encounters?
