THE letter “Continent of Peace” (Daily Echo, May 17) from Molly Scott Cato MEP illustrated in no uncertain terms that like most EU-rophiles, she has an extremely selective memory when it comes to the EU’s peacekeeping record.

No mention of the almost 3-year long genocidal Bosnian Conflict (March 1992 to December 1995) – hardly a shining example of the EU’s effectiveness as a peacekeeper.

That European conflict was finally brought to an end thanks to NATO and the UN – not Brussels.

Not surprising though that Ms Scott Cato should overlook that triumph of EU diplomacy, after all only an estimated 100,000 were killed in that little skirmish – and the genocidal massacre of 8,000 men and young boys in Srebenica is hardly worthy of note!

And I can’t help but wonder if Ms Scott Cato’s effusive endorsement of the EU has something to do with the huge salary, generous expense allowances and other perks she receives – courtesy of the tax-burdened people of this country.

She and her colleagues in Brussels must be absolutely panic-stricken as the realisation hits home that there is an increasing likelihood of the Brussels gravy train being derailed in the very near future.
