IMAGINE this: A sunny day, 100+ vintage and supercars roll into town followed by thousands of eager car-buffs wanting to enjoy the sights and surroundings over the lunchtime period.
They take advantage of the selection of food and drink on offer. Then what happens?
A dilemma when, by 2pm, all the inadequate number of rubbish bins are full to overflowing and despite the council suggesting that everyone should take their bottles and chip wrappers home, in reality I saw very little evidence of ‘lads’ carrying bags to put their detritus in and frankly who can blame them?
In their excitement at the prospect of seeing a host of Ferraris, Porsches, etc, up close would you expect anyone to remember to bring a bag for their rubbish and then to carry it around?
I recently attended a Sweeps Festival in Rochester and was impressed at the number of stewards in evidence litter-picking throughout the day.
Come on Christchurch, just because you allow these events to take place your responsibilities don’t end there.
